Anglican Women Fellowship
Hundreds of members of the Anglican Women Fellowship in the Diocese of Pretoria assembled standing before Him. Offering Him in humble love – all their aims, hopes and ambitions for His blessing from above.
This was their celebration at the St Alban’s Cathedral to mark 40 years of their unity in prayer, bonded in love.
Colourfully dressed, the women came from all clusters of the diocese to celebrate their achievements and to look back with pride and also chart the way forward.
Past presidents told their stories and the challenges they faced. They included Joy Bidgood, Violet Molekoa, Sophia Makeketa, and Lorraine Khoza who gave a report about the history of the fellowship.
Among the guest speakers were Matilda Mogale from the Johannesburg Fellowship, who appealed to the locals to be trustworthy and stand for the truth and live for the oath they have taken. The Diocese of the St Mark the Evangelist in Limpopo was represented by Maggie Makhafola – who in her forties, claims to be the senior citizen of the fellowship in her diocese.
She was encouraged to see seniors like Sophia Makeketa and said she will be encouraging those in the north to do likewise. Elna Riviers-Moore of the Diocese of Highveld represented her diocese.
Bishop Jo – who was the celebrant – told the women that they must celebrate in order to remind themselves about the way they should live. He said if they lived according to their Christian belief, many will have the desire to join their fellowship.
Bishop Jo said the women should have the courage to do what pleases Jesus remembering that Jesus sends out those who have responded. He said the fellowship will remain meaningless if it does nothing about the hungry and the unemployed. “If you believe in the values of your fellowship, you will give to God just like Mary and Martha did. Remember that Mary served Jesus to an extent that His followers became jealous. So when you serve the Lord, remember Mary and Martha,” said Bishop Jo.
